Step by step to install remote desktop session host in a work-group environment,
without install active directory & domain controller.
Item Requirement:
1 unit DVD Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2.
1 unit Document Agreement Remote Desktop License CAL.
FYI: Server 2012 have 3 type of client license (CAL), make sure you buy the right license suite with your company.
Optional:
This network connection setting is optional task, you can do it later depend on your company requirement.
As for setup process, I'm using my country ip address. (other country have a different ip address)
Server IP Address 192.168.7.201
Subnett Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.7.202 (network router)
Dns1 1.9.1.9 (internet provider)
Dns2 8.8.8.8
Configuration: (server name + group name only an example, you may pick different name)
1) After complete install windows server 2012 r2, & purchase CAL license.
2) Set server name + workgroup name + primary dns, in server properties.
-1 click change setting button & set description to server name, example SERVER9
-2 click change button & set computer name as SERVER9
set workgroup as GROUP9
-3 click more button & set primary dns suffix as com.my
-4) click ok button & save all setting then restart server.
3) Open Server Manager -> Manage -> Add Roles & Features
click next button "Installation Type" then chose Role-base or feature-based installation
4) "Server Selection" select server from server pool which is SERVER9.com.my
5) "Server Roles" Remote Desktop Services, pick Remote Desktop Licensing & Remote Desktop Session Host.
6) Just continue click next button & install. Server need to be restart again.
You will see Remote Desktop Services on dash board.
7) Next continue part 2 installation CAL for server.
